100th Day of School!

Friday was Teagan’s first day of in person Kindergarten and she was SO very excited!

I have longed for this day for the past few years and to be honest, I mourned the loss of this day in the Fall when school started 100% remote. This was supposed to be the year that all 3 of our kids were in school, that we had no childcare expenses and that I could adjust my work schedule to more closely match the kids school schedules. 2020 had something different in mind! I had to allow myself to grieive the loss of something that my Type A personality had planned and prepared for the last few years.

Before school started our family evaluated all of our options (yes, spreadsheets were involved) regarding school for our three kids. We considered:

  • Finding a homeschool curriculum so that the kids were on similiar schedules.
  • Continuing with public school’s remote learning (aka zoom)
  • Private schools
  • Hiring a nanny to help with coordination of school while we worked our regular schedules.
  • Having my husband switch to 2nd shift at Boeing (2pm-11:30pm) to be home with the kids in the morning and allow my to work my regular schedule.

Ultimately, what we decided was best for our family was to allow the kids to continue with their regular schools doing 100% remote learning.

We also decided it was best for me to change my work schedule which would allow me to be home with the kids in the morning and early afternoon. My husband also kept with his regular schedule which allows him to take over after I left for work. This schedule also allowed us to not have to find a new nanny. And, it would also not require one parent to do dinner and bedtime alone. Because, lets be honest that is the worst!

Fast forward 99 school days. That’s right. 99 days of zoom, asynchroynous learning and a lot of tears, smiles, laughs and even tantrums.

Teagan’s first day of in person Kindergarten just so happened to fall on the 100th day of school and she squealed with excitement as we sat in the parking lot waiting to walk up to school.

Her reaction, excitement and sheer joy provided me with the reassurance that we made the right decision…..for our family!

Love this!!! Things may not have gone the way we planned but it’s still so sweet to see them enjoying the little steps of “normalcy” 🌸
