Why now?
I spent the better half of 2020 feeling completely overwhelmed. For the first time we were without a nanny and all 3 kids were out of school. This doesn’t really work when you have 2 full time working parents that work outside of the home. With the start of the pandemic 1 year ago, we shifted our schedules in a way that would me to stay home with the kids in the morning and early afternoon and my husband who would take over the afternoon and evening. I am so very grateful to have this flexibility as a business owner and to have the support from my patients as well.
So why start this blog now? What changed? Won’t it be too much?
Well, I spent the last eight years as adjunct faculty at University of Bridgeport teaching Developmental Nutrition in their Masters program. I defended this job to my husband for years as I didn’t think that it was taking too much of my time or was too demanding. It became second nature, I would finish my clinic day, get the kids to bed and after everyone was asleep I would stay up grading, responding to discussion board posts, writing exam questions, etc. I justified it for so long because it was my “alone” time. I would watch some of my trash tv shows (confession – I am a reality tv junkie! The Bachelor, 90 Day Fiance and more recently Married At First Sight) while I was working.
I really enjoyed teaching this class, I always found myself learning so much from the amazing students in the program. However, when I received the news that the college was dissolving and the program was being sold to another college it felt right like it was the right time to hang up that hat. Now remember when I said I defended that hat, thinking I was not spending that much time on this teaching position especially since I had taught for so long.
I was wrong! My last day was in December and now that I’m no longer teaching 30 out of the 52 weeks of the year I’m finding myself with some extra free time.
So, that is my answer to why now. Now is the time for me to invest in myself and start this passion project.

I do love the way you have framed this challenge and it does indeed supply me personally some fodder for thought. Nonetheless, through what I have observed, I really wish when the opinions pile on that people today stay on point and not embark on a soap box of some other news du jour. Yet, thank you for this fantastic point and while I can not really concur with it in totality, I value the standpoint. Kelsey Ansell Ambrosia
